About Ferric Sulphate

  • Inorganic compound with iron in its +3 oxidation state
  • Available as a 40% w/w aqueous solution (12.5% Fe3+)
  • Primary use is as a coagulant / flocculant.
  • Extremely efficient at particle removal
  • Fe2(SO4)3 hydrolyses in water to form ferric hydroxide which attracts particles in the water and forms flocs
  • Also effective at phosphorus removal, sulphide removal, odour control and sludge dewatering
  • Effective over a wide pH range
  • Can be used to inhibit corrosion by controlling the formation of hydrogen sulphide

Properties

  • CAS No: 15244-10-7
  • Molecular formula: Fe2(SO4)3
  • Molecular weight: 399.9 g/mol (anhydrous)
  • Density: 1.57 – 1.63 g/cm3 (@ 15 °C)
  • Boiling point: 103 – 108 °C
  • pH: <1

Industries & Applications

  • Coagulation / flocculation agent
  • Drinking water, wastewater treatment and effluent treatment
  • Removal of suspended solids & phosphorus
  • Raw material in production of pigments and other iron compounds
