About Sodium Silicate

  • Colourless, odourless liquid.
  • Various grades are characterised by their SiO2:Na2O ratios.
  • Low ratios have alkaline properties whereas higher ratios are neutral.
  • Used as an aluminium coagulant and an iron flocculant in wastewater treatment.
  • Effective at removing heavy metals.
  • Can be used as a phosphate-free corrosion inhibitor and helps to regulate pH.
  • Produced by fusing high purity silica sand and sodium carbonate at temperatures of 1000-1500°

Properties

  • CAS No: 1344-00-9
